The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has learned that on January 3rd, 2026 Oromo Prosperity Party regime soldiers (regime forces) carried out a massacre of at least 17 civilians and abducted ten additional civilians in Ayo Kebele of Ayo-Guagusa Woreda (Awi Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia).
Following fighting between Fano forces and regime forces near Ayo, the regime forces sustained numerous casualties. Following this ambush, regime forces reportedly entered Ayo and carried out retaliatory executions against young civilians. Sources indicate that 17 young men were rounded up from places of recreation and work and subsequently executed. Reports further indicate that the regime troops initially prevented the retrieval of the deceased bodies. Additionally, the regime forces reportedly abducted more than ten other young civilians and took them toward Ehudit town. Names of eleven killed victims were identified as follows: (1) Dawit Kenaw; (2) Tewsil Mire; (3) Birhanu Arega; (4) Kindu Tadesse; (5) Endale Tesfu; (6) Shikur Gashaw; (7) Ahmed Hussein; (8) Awlawchew Alene; (9) Tigistu Getachew; (10) Chekole Asrade; and (11) Minbale Bitew.

የአማራ ማህበር በአሜሪካ እንዳረጋገጠው፣ ታኅሣሥ 25 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. የኦሮሞ ብልጽግና ፓርቲ አገዛዝ ወታደሮች (የአገዛዙ ኃይሎች) በአዮ-ጓጉሳ ወረዳ፣ አዮ ቀበሌ (አዊ ዞን፣ አማራ ክልል፣ ኢትዮጵያ) በትንሹ 17 ሰላማዊ ሰዎችን የጨፈጨፉ ሲሆን፣ ተጨማሪ አሥር ሰላማዊ ሰዎችን ደግሞ አፍነው ወስደዋል።
ምንጮች እንደገለጹት በእለቱ በአዮ አቅራቢያ በፋኖ ኃይሎች እና በአገዛዙ ኃይሎች መካከል በተደረገ ውጊያ፣ በአገዛዙ ኃይሎች ላይ በርካታ ጉዳት ደርሶ ነበር። በፋኖ ተዋጊዎች የተፈጸመባቸውን ድንገተኛ ጥቃት ተከትሎ፣ የአገዛዙ ኃይሎች ወደ አዮ ቀበሌ በመግባት በሰላማዊ ሰዎች ላይ የበቀል ግድያ ፈጽመዋል። ምንጮች እንደገለጹት የአገዛዙ ኃይሎች በዋናነት ወጣቶች ላይ በማነጣጠር 17 የሚደርሱ ሰላማዊ ሰዎችን ከመዝናኛ እና ከሥራ ቦታዎች በማሰባሰብ በጅምላ ረሽነዋቸዋል። በተጨማሪም የአገዛዙ ወታደሮች የሟቾች አስከሬን እንዳይነሳ ከልክለው እንደነበር ምንጮች ጠቁመዋል። ከግድያው በተጨማሪ የአገዛዙ ኃይሎች ሌሎች ከአሥር በላይ የሚሆኑ ወጣት ሰላማዊ ሰዎችን አፍነው ወደ እሁዲት ከተማ መውሰዳቸውን ምንጮች አክለው ገልጸዋል። በአገዛዙ ወታደሮች ከተገደሉት መካከል የ11 ሟቾች ስም እንደሚከተለው ተለይቷል፡ (1) ዳዊት ቀናው፤ (2) ተውስል ምሬ፤ (3) ብርሃኑ አረጋ፤ (4) ክንዱ ታደሰ፤ (5) እንዳለ ተስፉ፤ (6) ሽኩር ጋሻው፤ (7) አህመድ ሁሴን፤ (8) አውላቸው አለነ፤ (9) ትግስቱ ጌታቸው፤ (10) ቸኮለ አስራደ፤ እና (11) ምንባለ ቢተው ናቸው።
