Yesterday night, five people were killed by heavy artillery fired near the entrance of Wegel Tena town in Delanta Woreda of South Wollo Zone in Amhara Region, according to eyewitnesses that spoke to Voice of America.


In the attack, an ambulance from Delanta Primary Hospital was burned down according to witnesses, who added the driver and a hospital technician were killed while a hospital coordinator was seriously injured. The witnesses added the remaining three killed victims were local residents that were doing construction work at the time of the attack.


Similarly, heavy fire in Lasta and Habru Woredas of North Wollo Zone resulted in civilian killings and injuries according to residents.


Yesterday morning at around 10 am heavy fire killed a large number of civilians in an area called Jaro Gebeya in Lasta Woreda according to interviewed sources.


The witnesses said the attack was particularly severe since it was a market day and a mother and child were among the victims.


In related news, on November 26, 2023 (Hedar 16, 2016 EC) heavy artillery shelling of the Gatira Giyorgis Church area in Habru Woreda of North Wollo Zone struck worshippers and priests during religious services and a blessing ceremony leaving them with injuries ranging from mild to critical in severity, according to the monastery’s caretaker who spoke to Voice of America.


The North Wollo Zone Government Communications Coordinator said since the area is under Command Post no comment can be given on the alleged attacks, however the Command Post would survey the situation and potentially give a statement in the future.
