Over twenty-nine high-profile Amhara prisoners of conscience continue to face life-threatening conditions in detention sites in Addis-Ababa City, Ethiopia

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has learned that over twenty-nine high-profile Amhara prisoners of conscience continue to face life-threatening conditions in detention sites in Addis-Ababa City, Ethiopia.

In a recent urgent update, AAA reported that numerous detainees were transported to undisclosed locations as part of campaign of coercion by the ruling Oromo Prosperity Party regime with involvement of Berhanu Adelo, Chief Commissioner of the state-funded Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC). According to the latest information received by AAA, political prisoners transferred to different locations have subsequently faced harsh and inhumane conditions.

As of October 4^th, detention circumstances of 23 high-profile detainees were described including detention sites and conditions across Kilinto, Kaliti and Aba-Samuel Prisons in Addis-Ababa City. The detention circumstances of six detainees could not be identified, and AAA could not independently verify detention circumstances.

1. In Kilinto Prison, detention circumstances were reportedly as follows for nine detainees:

• Dr. Wondwossen Assefa held in solitary confinement in Zone 6 under extreme and highly appalling conditions.

• Menber Alemu and Eskinder Shifferaw held in Zone 3 under harsh conditions.

• Dr. Sisay Awgichew and Dr. Tewodros Hailemariam held in Zone 4; Asaminew Tadesse and Mesele Cheru held in Zone 2; Alelign Mihretu held in Zone 1; Dessalegn Ejigu held in Zone 5.

2. In Kaliti Prison, detention circumstances were reportedly as follows for 12 detainees:

• Yohannes Buayalew, Dawit Begashaw, and Esubalew Belete held in a single cell in a section known as the “punishment area” under harsh and inhumane conditions. It is notable that Esubalew is a Canadian citizen and senior ground technician.

• Gobeze Sisay and Abay Zewdu held separately in a small cell.

• Two out of four female detainees (Meskerem Abera, Genet Asmamaw, Hiwot Alemayehu, and Halima Mehamed) moved to a different location (they were previously all held together).

• Dr. Zerihun Bahriew, Chanyalew Zeyede and Dr. Meseret Kelemwork held in their previous area.

3. In Aba-Samuel Prison, detention circumstances were reportedly as follows for two detainees:

• Mike Melak and Firdu Tafere held in Zone 4.

AAA continues to call for the immediate and unconditional release of all persons detained for their ethnic Amhara identity and/or political beliefs. Advocacy groups have also continued to call for independent verification of conditions of political prisoners, access to adequate medical care and humane detention conditions, contact with family and legal representatives, and clarification from relevant authorities regarding the reason and legal basis for transfers.

የአማራ ማኅበር በአሜሪካ በአዲስ አበባ ከተማ ኢትዮጵያ በሚገኙ የእስር ቦታዎች ውስጥ የሚገኙ ከሀያ ዘጠኝ በላይ ታዋቂ የአማራ የኅሊና እስረኞች በከፍተኛ የጤና እና የደኅንነት ሥጋት ለሕይወታቸው የሚያሰጋ ሁኔታ ላይ እንደሚገኙ ተረድቷል።

ማኅበሩ በቅርቡ ባወጣው አስቸኳይ መረጃ፣ ገዢው የኦሮሞ ብልጽግና ፓርቲ በሕዝብ ገንዘብ በሚደጎመው የኢትዮጵያ ሰብዓዊ መብቶች ኮሚሽን (ኢሰመኮ) ዋና ኮሚሽነር ብርሃኑ አዴሎ አጋዥነት በሚያካሂደው የማስገደድ ዘመቻ በርካታ ታሳሪዎች ወደ አልታወቁ ቦታዎች መወሰዳቸውን ዘግቧል። ማኅበሩ ባገኘው አዲስ መረጃ መሠረት፣ ወደ ተለያዩ ቦታዎች የተዛወሩ የፖለቲካ እስረኞች ከባድ እና ሰብዓዊነት የጎደለው ሁኔታ አጋጥሟቸዋል።

እስከ መስከረም 24 ቀን ድረስ፣ በአዲስ አበባ ከተማ በሚገኙ ቂሊንጦ፣ ቃሊቲ እና አባ ሳሙኤል ማረሚያ ቤቶች የሚገኙ የ23 ታዋቂ ታሳሪዎች የእስር ሁኔታ እና ቦታ የታወቀ ሲሆን የስድስት ታሳሪዎች የእስር ሁኔታን ግን ማኅበሩ ማረጋገጥ አልቻለም።

1. በቂሊንጦ ማረሚያ ቤት የዘጠኝ ታሳሪዎች የእስር ሁኔታ እንደሚከተለው መሆኑ ተዘግቧል፡

• ዶ/ር ወንድወሰን አሰፋ በዞን 6 በጣም ከባድ እና እጅግ አስከፊ በሆነ ሁኔታ ውስጥ በብቸኝነት እስር ላይ ይገኛሉ።

• መንበር አለሙ እና እስክንድር ሽፈራው በዞን 3 በከባድ ሁኔታ ውስጥ ይገኛሉ።

• ዶ/ር ሲሳይ አውግቸው እና ዶ/ር ቴዎድሮስ ኃይለማሪያም በዞን 4፣ አሳምነው ታደሰ እና መሰለ ቸሩ በዞን 2፣ አለልኝ ምህረቱ በዞን 1፣ ደሳለኝ እጅጉ በዞን 5 ይገኛሉ።

2. በቃሊቲ ማረሚያ ቤት የ12 ታሳሪዎች የእስር ሁኔታ እንደሚከተለው መሆኑ ተዘግቧል፡

• ዮሐንስ ቧያለው፣ ዳዊት በጋሻው እና እሱባለው በለጠ፣ «የቅጣት ስፍራ» ተብሎ በሚጠራው ቦታ በአንድ ክፍል ውስጥ አብረው በከባድ እና ሰብዓዊነት በጎደለው ሁኔታ ውስጥ ይገኛሉ። እሱባለው የካናዳ ዜጋ እና ከፍተኛ የአውሮፕላን ጥገና ባለሙያ መሆኑ ይታወቃል።

• ጎበዜ ሲሳይ እና አባይ ዘውዱ በትንሽ ክፍል ውስጥ ለየብቻ ታስረው ይገኛሉ።

• አራት ሴት ታሳሪዎች (መስከረም አበራ፣ ገነት አስማማው፣ ሕይወት አለማየሁ እና ሃሊማ መሐመድ) አብረው ታስረው ከነበሩበት ቦታ ሁለቱ ወደ ሌላ ቦታ ተዛውረዋል።

• ዶ/ር ዘሪሁን ባሕሪው፣ ጫንያለው ዘየደ እና ዶ/ር መሠረት ቀለምወርቅ በነበሩበት ቦታ ይገኛሉ።

3. በአባ ሳሙኤል ማረሚያ ቤት የሁለት ታሳሪዎች የእስር ሁኔታ እንደሚከተለው መሆኑ ተዘግቧል፡

• ማይክ መላክ እና ፍርዱ ታፈረ በዞን 4 ይገኛሉ።

ከላይ የተጠቀሱት የሕሊና እስረኞች ፎቶግራፎች ከዚህ በታች ቀርበዋል።

የአማራ ማኅበር በአሜሪካ በአማራ ብሔር ማንነታቸው እና/ወይም በፖለቲካ እምነታቸው ምክንያት የታሰሩ ሰዎች ሁሉ በአስቸኳይ እና ያለምንም ቅድመ ሁኔታ እንዲፈቱ ጥሪ ማቅረቡን ይቀጥላል። የመብት ተከራካሪ ቡድኖችም የፖለቲካ እስረኞችን ሁኔታ በተናጠል ማረጋገጥ፣ በቂ የሕክምና እርዳታ ማግኘት እና ሰብዓዊነት ያለው የእስር ሁኔታ መኖሩን ማረጋገጥ፣ ከቤተሰብ እና ከሕግ ተወካዮች ጋር መገናኘት፣ እንዲሁም ከሚመለከታቸው አካላት የዝውውሩን ምክንያት እና ሕጋዊ መሠረት ግልጽ ማድረግ እንደሚገባ ጥሪ ማቅረባቸውን ቀጥለዋል።
