Transcript:

Next, we have a surprise for you, he is called an insurgent or as he's known by his nickname "land drone." The man who's there for the Amhara people in times of need.

Brigadier General Tefera Mamo is here, lets welcome him to the stage with respect and a round of applause.

The man who's there for the Amhara people in times of need. Brigadier General Tefera Mamo.

That's not loud enough.

The man nicknamed the "land drone" and is feared by the enemy. The man who's there for the Amhara people in times of need. Brigadier General Tefera Mamo.

It's a great joy to have him in our midst. Thank you.

Fano Brigadier General Tefera Mamo:

Thank you, members of the Kesem Division leaders and members, as well as the members of the Nebelbal Brigade.

I would like to bow down and express my gratitude and happiness to be here in your presence for this event.

There was one song I used to listen to when I was young, we're in Minjar right now right?

We used to say, "don't touch Minjar, let them sit where they are. They will come to your rescue in your time of need."

What happened was, as the writers of Ahmed Gragn and others have repeatedly wrote, Minjar Amhara made a lot of sacrifice and had a lot of battle success when Amhara were being attacked at the time.

It is written in many books about the battles Minjars fought.

After this, when different forces had pushed Amharas especially from Shewa, Bale and other areas to the north, Minjar fought in different times to protect their territory.

Their ability to remain in these vast lands is the result of our forefathers' success.

After that you've seen it during the 27 years of EPRDF (TPLF), whenever east Amhara faced repeated attacks, Minjar was always there to swiftly respond.

Minjar were the ones that would get there swiftly. That is why the saying I mentioned earlier was dedicated to Minjar.

It's after that, that others took that saying and sang it in different ways. But the point is that this song was dedicated to Minjar.

"Don't touch Minjar, let them sit where they are. They will come to your rescue in your time of need."

You are the descendants of that generation. And as your leaders have stated, the reason this generation of Amhara rose up as a people and are sending their children to the frontlines after facing repeated attacks against the Amhara people is because this is the price that needs to be paid.

Why was a gap created? Since Amhara have an Ethiopian psychology, the people worked to live equally with others. And Amhara have worked to get the country as far as possible.

But it doesn't stop here, the reason the Amhara people have been a target is ever since the Amhara people, led by Emperor Menelik, broke the backs of the European invaders at Adwa.

Then 40 years later when the Italians came back again, they said that what is holding Ethiopia together like a glue or cement was the Amhara language, the Amhara culture, the Amhara religion and the Amhara people.

They labeled the Amhara in this category. After this labelling, in the 5 years they were in Ethiopia they targeted Amhara.

For anyone that suggests negotiations or a peace deal, the first thing that needs to come is our identity needs to be restored to where it was.

The Amhara people should have the right to live and work anywhere in the country as Amharas.

The Amhara people cannot continue to be killed and displaced in the country their forefathers built.

This is the time we go together equally.

Look at this armed struggle, see how much it has grown in just one year.

We're only seeing one brigade here, if you look at the forces in Gojjam, Gonder, Wollo, and other parts of Shewa, you will see how large our forces are.

Today it has gone beyond Shambel (Captain) and Meto Aleqa (Lieutenant), and it is building Shaleqa's (Battalion), Brigade, and Commands.

This is why we have to work patiently and be well prepared as we move forward.

And there is no one that can stop us as we move forward.

This is what I wanted to say. And to the Nebelbal Brigade, you have a major responsibility as the area you are located in is a very key and strategic position.

There will be a large force that will assemble with you here in the near future.

Since this location you are in will play a significant role in the future, you have to look at the big picture.

I encourage you to continue what you have started and wish us all to have the new year be the year of victory.
