FANA Files Official Complaint Against US Embassy's Inappropriate Use of 'Finfinnee' for Addis Ababa

Subject: Inappropriate reference to the city of Addis Ababa

Dear Mr. Secretary,

Federation of Amharas in North America (FANA), an umbrella association of leading Amhara civic organizations that bring together Amharas from all corners of the United States of America, currently comprising 17 organizations are filing this letter of complaint with your office against the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for its deliberate usage of the word “Finfinnee” as a reference to the ancient city of Addis Ababa on an official tweet on November 22, 2023, in Addis Ababa - Ethiopia.

The usage of such language by the US Embassy in Addis Ababa amounts to indirectly endorsing the ongoing Amhara genocide, the present war on Amhara people, the demolition of hundreds of thousands of Amhara houses, uprooting millions non-Oromo, majority Amhara, from the capital city, the dismantling of non-Oromo businesses, the destruction of non - Oromo identities, and the demographic reengineering of the ancient city of Addis Abeba. The Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) regime of Abiy Ahmed Ali and his surrogate terrorist organization, the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), are actively engaged in crimes against humanity and the homogenization of the capital city under the name “Finfinnee.”

We firmly believe this act by the embassy violates diplomatic norms, setting precedence that will exasperate the rapidly deteriorating ethnic cleansing and genocidal war on the Amhara people actively pursued by the apartheid regime in Ethiopia.

We hope the US Embassy and others will refrain from such scandalous acts in the future that have more significant implications for millions of people in Ethiopia and throughout the region.

Sincerely

Yezihalem Mesfin

Chairman

Federation of Amharas in North America
