LEGAL ANALYSIS ON THE ONGOING AMHARA GENOCIDE IN "OROMIA" REGION, ETHIOPIA: A PLEA FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

Since young university students in the 1960s mistook the status of Amharic as a government language for ethnic Amhara dominance in Ethiopia, Amharas have been the subject of collective scapegoating hate speech and killings in Ethiopia. The apartheid-style ethnic federation established in the 1990s followed the ascendance of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF)-dominated government into power which transformed the hatred towards Amharas into recurrent massacre of Amharas in many regions of Ethiopia.
Enforced disappearance of ethnic Amharas after arrest by government security forces in Addis Ababa

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has conducted investigations into the arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance of ethnic Amharas in the Bole-Bulbula neighborhood of Bole sub-city of Addis Ababa city. Between February 1st and 10th, 2023, security forces of the Addis Ababa city administration and the Federal Government in collaboration arrested more than 30 ethnic Amharas in Woreda 12 of Bole sub-city.

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has conducted new investigations into the ongoing targeted demolitions of homes belonging to ethnic Amharas on the outskirts of Addis Ababa city which were incorporated by the Oromia Regional State under the newly established Sheger city administration.

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has undertaken a human rights investigation over a reported ethnic-based massacre of Amhara civilians on February 2nd, 2023, in Anno town (Gobuseyo Woreda, East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia) by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
Update on the January 11, 2023 massacre of Amhara IDPs and civilians in Haro Kebele (East Wollega, Oromia Region) by Oromia Special Forces

AAA has verified from survivors and families of victims that on January 11th, 2023, heavily armed Oromia Special Forces (OSF) members (Oromia Regional Government forces) opened fire on Haro town and surrounding areas that resulted in the killing of at least 27 Amhara civilians and injury of an additional 15 Amhara civilians.
