Ethnic-based massacre of Amhara civilians by Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) militants in Jarte (Jardega Jarte Woreda) and Amuru (Amuru Woreda) towns in Horo Guduru Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia

The AAA’s investigation reveals that between September 23rd and 25th, 2022, a systematic, ethnically motivated, and large-scale massacre of Amhara civilians was perpetrated by OLA militants in collaboration with local Qeerro (vigilante Oromo youth group) in Jarte and Amuru towns. As a result of this massacre, at least 170 ethnic Amhara civilians were killed, several thousand were displaced and their properties were abandoned and/or looted.
War Crimes of TPLF in occupied Adarkay Woreda of Amhara Region

The TPLF military occupation of Aderkay Woreda was marked by the execution of civilians, the shelling of civilians and civilian objects, and rape. The TPLF forces also engaged in widespread looting and destruction of both public and private properties. These included specially protected sites such as religious institutions. Basic public services like banking, telecommunication, and electricity have been unavailable in Aderkay ever since the woreda fell under the control of Tigrayan forces.

In many of the atrocities, massacres, and attacks on ethnic Amhara civilians in the Oromia Region, there is a handful of evidence that undoubtedly shows the complicity of the Ethiopian Government at different levels of administration such as the federal, regional, zonal, and woreda levels. Before almost all attacks against the Amhara civilians in the Oromia Region, government officials have been made aware of impending attacks as residents have reported them in advance.

In violation of the self-declared cessation of hostilities, on August 24th, 2022, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces began re-invading and attacking the Raya Kobo Woreda (district) of the North Wollo Zone in Amhara Region, Ethiopia, for the third time.

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) tasked its team of human rights investigators to conduct an investigation into the massacre reported in Agamsa town, Amuru Woreda (district), Horo Guduru Wollega Zone in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, an area where ethnicbased massacres targetting Amhara residents has been carried out widely. AAA’s team of investigators collected 33 first-hand accounts from survivors, victims’ families, and eyewitnesses of the Agamsa massacre between Monday, August 29 and Thursday, September 8, 2022.
