War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – July 27th to August 2nd, 2026

Overview

For the week of July 27th to August 2nd, 2026, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Oromo Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.

• This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 27 woreda/city administrations across 11 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included Wag-Hemra, North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, North Gojjam, South Gonder, North Gonder and Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera. Developments were also recorded in East Wollega Zone of Oromia Region.

  
  

• Civilian casualties were recorded in Aneded and Lasta Woredas of East Gojjam and North Wollo Zones in Amhara Region. Further civilian casualties were recorded in Kiremu Woreda of East Wollega Zone in Oromia Region.

  
  

• Abductions were recorded in Raya-Bala Woreda of North Wollo Zone in Amhara Region. The abductions were undertaken by Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces.

  
  

• This week, large-scale military mobilizations and confrontations were recorded involving TPLF and regime forces in the Raya territory and in Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera Zone of Amhara Region, along the Ethio-Sudan border. Drone activity was also recorded in areas of North Wollo and Wag-Hemra Zones.
