War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – July 13th to 19th, 2026

Overview
For the week of July 13th to 19th, 2026, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Oromo Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.
This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 22 woreda/city administrations across 8 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, Awi, South Gonder and Central Gonder. Developments were also recorded in Addis-Ababa City.
Civilian casualties were recorded in 9 woreda/city administrations across 4 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Filakit-Gergera, Borena, Machakel, Enemay, Debay-Telatgin, Bibugn, Dega-Damot, Quarit, and Dembecha-Zuriya Woredas of North Wollo, South Wollo, East Gojjam and West Gojjam Zones in Amhara Region.
Arrests/abductions were recorded in Quarit and Wemberima Woredas of West Gojjam Zone in Amhara Region.
This week, Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces carried out looting and harassment against affiliates of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) in occupied Alamata City of North Wollo Zone in Amhara Region.
This week, opposition groups have criticized the highly controversial national dialogue process underway by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC). The process has been widely considered illegitimate and highly controlled by the incumbent party.
