War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – December 8th to 14th, 2025

Overview


For the week of December 8th to 14th, 2025, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.


  • This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 39 woreda/city administrations across 11 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included the Wag-Hemra, North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, Awi, South Gonder, Central Gonder, West Gonder and North Gonder Zones. Developments were also recorded in East Wollega Zone of Oromia Region.


  • Civilian casualties were recorded in 7 woreda/city administrations across 4 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Korem, Kobo, Bugna, Aneded, Shebel-Berenta, Gonder-Zuriya and Wegera Woredas in North Wollo, East Gojjam, South Gonder and Central Gonder Zones. In Korem city of Wag-Hemra Zone, Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces carried out a deadly attack on a mother and child. In addition, deadly attacks on civilians were carried out by Oromia Region Special Forces (OSF) in East Wollega Zone in Oromia Region.


  • Arrests were recorded in Raya-Alamata, Shebel-Berenta and Wegera Woredas of North Wollo, East Gojjam and Central Gonder Zones of Amhara Region. In Raya-Alamata Woreda, arrests were carried out by TPLF forces which targeted civilians serving at churches affiliated with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC). Abductions were recorded in Kobo city in North Wollo Zone of Amhara Region.


  • This week regime forces carried out a drone attack which struck a primary school in Gishe-Rabel Woreda of North Shewa Zone in Amhara Region resulting in civilian casualties.
