War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – August 10th to 16th, 2026

Overview
For the week of August 10th to 16th, 2026, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Oromo Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.
This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 19 woreda/city administrations across 8 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included North Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, North Gojjam, South Gonder, and Central Gonder. Developments were also recorded in East Wollega and Horo-Guduru-Wollega Zones of Oromia Region, Metekel Zone of Benishangul-Gumuz Region and in Addis-Ababa City.
Civilian casualties were recorded in 4 woreda/city administrations across 3 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Habru, Gubalafto, Enemay, and Quarit Woredas in North Wollo, East Gojjam and West Gojjam Zones. Further civilian casualties were recorded in Gida-Ayana Woreda of East Wollega Zone in Oromia Region and in Mandura Woreda of Metekel Zone in Benishangul-Gumuz Region.
Abductions were recorded in Raya-Alamata Woreda of North Wollo Zone in Amhara Region. The abductions were undertaken by Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces.
This week, Amhara political prisoners detained in Addis-Ababa City were compelled to sign a document taking responsibility for crimes associated with the Amhara war in exchange for their release from prison.
