Oromo Prosperity Party regime soldiers detained at least six residents of Gunde-Meskel Town in Dera District

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has learned that between September 1st

 and 2nd, 2026 Oromo Prosperity Party regime soldiers (regime forces) detained at least six residents of Gunde-Meskel Town in Dera District (North Shewa Zone, Oromia Region, 

Ethiopia). 

According to reports, regime forces conducted arrests on the basis of ethnic identity, 

perceived political affiliations, community activities, and alleged association with 

opposition or activist networks. Among those targeted were teachers, health 

professionals, business owners, and youths. On September 1st, regime forces detained 

at least five civilians in Gunde-Meskel. The detainees were identified as follows: (1) 

Birhanu Abu, a teacher and local restaurant owner; (2) Tefera Ayinachew, a teacher; (3) 

Natanim Walelign, a school administrator (head of Meskel-Eyesus Gedam Senbet 

School) and health professional at Gunde-Meskel Hospital, accused of providing 

information to an activist and of affiliation to EOTC-affiliated religious groups; (4) 

Mubarek (last name unknown), whose father was killed by OLA militants; and (5) Aba 

(last name unknown), accused of displaying Amhara cultural identity through clothing 

and social media. The following day (September 2nd), regime forces arrested another 

resident identified as Kalkidan Assefa who was accused of displaying Amhara cultural 

identity and displaying a cake for her business which was decorated with national flag 

colors (green, yellow, and red). 

According to observers the arrests signify a pattern which suggests a new expansion of 

authoritarian measures in Dera Woreda, in which ordinary activities, including cultural 

expression, social-media use, community participation, and professional or business 

activities, may be interpreted by authorities as indicators of opposition sympathies.

የአማራ ማህበር በአሜሪካ (አአአ) ከነሐሴ 26 እስከ 27 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም መካከል የኦሮሞ ብልጽግና ፓርቲ አገዛዝ ወታደሮች (የአገዛዝ ኃይሎች) በደራ ወረዳ (ሰሜን ሸዋ ዞን፣ ኦሮሚያ ክልል፣ ኢትዮጵያ) ከስድስት በላይ የጉንደ መስቀል ከተማ ነዋሪዎችን እንዳሰሩ ተረድቷል። 

እንደ ዘገባዎች ከሆነ የአገዛዝ ኃይሎች በብሄር ማንነት፣ በፖለቲካዊ ትስስር፣ በማህበረሰብ እንቅስቃሴዎች እና ከተቃዋሚ ወይም ከአክቲቪስት አውታረ መረቦች ጋር በማገናኘት ነው እስራቱን የፈጸሙት። ከተጠቆሙት መካከል መምህራን፣ የጤና ባለሙያዎች፣ የንግድ ባለቤቶች እና ወጣቶች ይገኙበታል። ነሐሴ 26፣ የአገዛዝ ኃይሎች በጉንደ መስቀል ከአምስት በላይ ሲቪሎችን አስረዋል። ታሳሪዎቹ እንደሚከተለው ታውቀዋል፡ (1) መምህር እና የአካባቢው የምግብ ቤት ባለቤት ብርሀኑ አቡ፤ (2) መምህር ተፈራ አይናቸው፤ (3) ናታኔም ዋለልኝ የትምህርት ቤት አስተዳዳሪ (የመስቀል እየሱስ ገዳም ሰንበት ትምህርት ቤት ኃላፊ) እና በጉንደ መስቀል ሆስፒታል የጤና ባለሙያ፣ ለአንድ አክቲቪስት መረጃ በመስጠት እና ከየኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ጋር ግንኙነት ካላቸው የሃይማኖት ቡድኖች ጋር በመገናኘት ተከሰዋል፤ (4) ሙባረክ (የአባት ስም አይታወቅም)፣ አባቱ በኦሮሞ ነፃነት ሠራዊት ታጣቂዎች የተገደለበት፤ እና (5) አባ (የአባት ስም አይታወቅም)፣ የአማራን ባህላዊ ማንነት በልብስ እና በማህበራዊ ሚዲያ በማሳየት ተከሷል። በማግስቱ (ነሐሴ 27)፣ የአገዛዙ ኃይሎች ቃልኪዳን አሰፋ የተባለች ሌላ ነዋሪን በቁጥጥር ስር አውለዋል፤ የአማራን ባህላዊ ማንነት በማሳየት እና የንግድ ስራዋ ኬክ ላይ በብሔራዊ ባንዲራ ቀለሞች (አረንጓዴ፣ ቢጫ እና ቀይ) በማስጌጥ ከሰዋታል። 

እንደ ታዛቢዎች ገለጻ፣ እስራቶቹ በደራ ወረዳ አዲስ የአምባገነን እርምጃዎችን መስፋፋት የሚያመለክት ሲሆን፣ ይህም ባህላዊ መግለጫን፣ የማህበራዊ ሚዲያ አጠቃቀምን፣ የማህበረሰብ ተሳትፎን እና የሙያ ወይም የንግድ እንቅስቃሴዎችን ጨምሮ ተራ ተግባራት በባለስልጣናት ዘንድ ቃዋሚዎችን እንደ ማጥቂያ ተደርገው ሊተረጎሙ ይችላሉ።
