Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces detained Memhir Haregwoyin Ayalew in Alamata city

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has learned that on October 21st, 2025 Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces detained Memhir Haregwoyin Ayalew in Alamata city (North Wollo Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia).

The incident took place at around 10:30 am near the Wonchif-Adebabay area in Kebele 02 of the city when the victim was on his way to his place of work. The victim, Memhir Haregwoyin Ayalew was a respected religious teacher and served as head of finance for the Raya Diocese of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. The arrest was made by TPLF forces, with ties to the Tigrayan settler administration in Alamata city, who reportedly carried out physical assault and made threats during the arrest.

The incident has sparked growing concern from community members over a pattern of abuse and intimidation, as well as the escalating crackdown against community figures and religious leaders. According to analysts, this development may reflect an attempt by the TPLF administration to suppress dissent and enforce a unitarist Tigrayan identity upon the predominantly Amhara population in the region. Such actions bear troubling resemblance to historical instances of forced assimilation and ethnically targeted repression seen in the territory. Observers have warned ongoing efforts to impose identity and administrative control over the local population not only undermines social cohesion but also risks fuelling deeper inter-communal conflict.

የአማራ ማህበር በአሜሪካ እንደተገነዘበው የትግራይ ሕዝብ ነጻ አውጪ ግንባር (ትሕነግ) ሃይሎች መምህር ሀረገወይን አያሌውን በአላማጣ ከተማ (በሰሜን ወሎ ዞን፣ አማራ ክልል፣ ኢትዮጵያ) ጥቅምት 13 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም እንደያዙ ለማወቅ ተችሏል።

ድርጊቱ የተፈፀመው ከጠዋቱ 4፡30 ላይ በከተማው ቀበሌ 02 ወንጭፍ-አደባባይ አካባቢ ሲሆን ተጎጂው ወደ ስራ ቦታቸው እየሄዱ በነበረበት ጊዜ እንደነበር ታውቋል። ተጎጂው መምህር ሀረገወይን አያሌው የተከበሩ የሀይማኖት መምህር ሲሆኑ በኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን የራያ ሀገረ ስብከት ሂሳብ ሹም ሆነው እያገለገሉ ነበር። በቁጥጥር ስር ያዋሏቸው በአላማጣ ከተማ ከሚገኘው የትግራይ የሰፋሪ አስተዳደር ጋር ግንኙነት ያላቸው የትሕነግ ሀይሎች ሲሆኑ በቁጥጥር ስር ባዋሉበት ወቅት አካላዊ ጥቃት እና ዛቻ ማድረጋቸው ተዘግቧል።

ይህ እየተፈጸመ ያለ በደልና ማስፈራራት እንዲሁም በማህበረሰቡ አባላትና በሃይማኖት መሪዎች ላይ እየደረሰ ያለው ጥቃት እየጨመረ መምጣት በማህበረሰቡ አባላት ላይ ስጋትን ቀስቅሷል። እንደ ተንታኞች ገለጻ፣ ይህ ክስተት የትሕነግ አስተዳደር በአካባቢው በብዛት በሚኖረው የአማራ ህዝብ ላይ ተቃውሞን ለማፈን እና የትግራይ ማንነትን በሀይል ለመጫን ያደረገውን ሙከራ ሊያንፀባርቅ ይችላል። እንደዚህ አይነት ድርጊቶች በአካባቢው ውስጥ ከሚታዩት ታሪካዊ የግዳጅ ውህደት እና በማንነት ላይ ያነጣጠሩ ጭቆናዎች ጋር ተመሳሳይነት አላቸው። ታዛቢዎች በአካባቢው ህዝብ ላይ የማንነት እና የአስተዳደር ቁጥጥር ለመጫን የሚደረጉ ጥረቶች ማህበራዊ ትስስርን ከማዳከም ባለፈ ጥልቅ የማህበረሰብ ግጭትን ሊያስከትሉ እንደሚችሉ አስጠንቅቀዋል።
