Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces carried out a series of deadly attacks and abductions targeting civilians and religious leaders in Alamata and Korem cities

Between January 5 th and 8th, 2026 Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces affiliated with the Tigrayan settler administration carried out a series of deadly attacks and abductions targeting civilians and religious leaders in Alamata and Korem cities, located in North Wollo and Wag-Hemra Zones, respectively (Amhara Region, Ethiopia).

On January 5^th, a young man identified as Amare Alemayehu Arega, a hospital worker, was found dead in the Korefe-Tera area of Korem city. In a related incident, another civilian was found seriously wounded after reportedly being stabbed with a knife. The victim, a former water development worker, sustained severe injuries and was referred to Maichew Hospital for medical treatment. 

On the morning of January 6th, TPLF forces abducted Deacon Yakob Woldesenbet in the vicinity of the local Commercial Bank of Ethiopia branch in Kebele 02. His whereabouts are not known. The victim, affiliated to the Raya Diocese of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC), served at the Debre-Medhanit-Eyesus Cathedral. On the morning of January 8 th, TPLF forces abducted a young man identified as Fitsum Reda after physically beating him.

Sources indicate that the abduction of members of the Amhara community and religious leaders (including clergy and educators) affiliated with the EOTC has intensified in these cities and their surroundings, occurring in a sustained and systematic manner. These incidents occurred amid escalating tensions linked to attempts to alter the existing structure of the EOTC administration in the area through the imposition of “Menbere-Selama”, a Tigrayan nationalist secessionist group. Furthermore, reports indicate that TPLF forces have established a new Sebeka Gubae (Parish Council) in Korem city. This move is widely perceived as an effort to forcibly replace religious leaders affiliated with the EOTC with individuals aligned with Menbere-Selama.

These incidents have generated growing fear among religious communities and raised serious concerns regarding freedom of religion, personal security, and the protection of civilians. Residents have further expressed strong condemnation of the Federal Command Post stationed in Alamata city, accusing it of failing to provide protection for civilian population. Community members allege that security forces have been either unwilling or unable to prevent recurrent killings, arrests, and abductions of residents.

Residents and local monitors have repeatedly called for urgent attention and intervention by relevant human rights bodies, religious institutions, and other national and international stakeholders to investigate these incidents, ensure accountability, and secure the safe release of those abducted.

ከታህሳስ 27 እስከ 30 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም ከትግራይ ሰፋሪዎች አስተዳደር ጋር ግንኙነት ያላቸው የትግራይ ሕዝብ ነጻ አውጪ ግንባር (ትሕነግ) ኃይሎች በሰሜን ወሎ እና ዋግ-ኸምራ ዞኖች (አማራ ክልል፣ ኢትዮጵያ) በሚገኙት የአላማጣ እና ኮረም ከተሞች ውስጥ በሲቪሎች እና በሃይማኖት መሪዎች ላይ ያነጣጠሩ ተከታታይ ግድያ እና አፈናዎችን ፈጽመዋል።

ታህሳስ 27 ቀን፣ አማረ አለማየሁ አረጋ የተባለ የሆስፒታል ሰራተኛ በኮረም ከተማ ኮረፌ-ተራ አካባቢ ሞቶ ተገኝቷል። በተመሳሳይ ሁኔታ፣ ሌላ ሲቪል በቢለዋ ከተወጋ በኋላ በከባድ ሁኔታ ቆስሏል ተብሏል። ተጎጂው የቀድሞ የውሃ ልማት ሰራተኛ ከባድ ጉዳት ደርሶበት ለህክምና ወደ ማይጨው ሆስፒታል ተልኳል።

ጥር 28 ቀን ጧት የትሕነግ ሃይሎች ዲያቆን ያዕቆብ ወልደሰንበትን በአላማጣ ከተማ ቀበሌ 02 አካባቢ በሚገኘው የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ቅርንጫፍ አካባቢ አፍነው ወስደው የት እንዳሉ አይታወቅም። ተጎጂው ከኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን (ኢ/ኦ/ተ/ቤ/ክ) የራያ ሀገረ ስብከት ጋር ግንኙነት ያለው በደብረ መድኃኒት እየሱስ ካቴድራል አገልግሏል። ታህሳስ 30 ቀን ጠዋት የትሕነግ ሃይሎች ፍፁም ረዳ የተባለውን ወጣት በአካል ከደበደቡ በኋላ አፍነው ወሰደውታል።

በነዚህ ከተሞችና አካባቢያቸው ከኢ/ኦ/ተ/ቤ/ክ ጋር ግንኙነት ያላቸው የአማራ ማህበረሰብ አባላት እና የሀይማኖት አባቶች (የሀይማኖት አባቶች እና መምህራንን ጨምሮ) አፈና ተጠናክሮ መቀጠሉን ምንጮች ጠቁመዋል። እነዚህ ክስተቶች የተከሰቱት «መንበረ ሰላማ» በተባለው የትግራይ ብሄርተኛ ተገንጣይ በአካባቢው ያለውን የኢ/ኦ/ተ/ቤ/ክ አስተዳደር መዋቅር ለመቀየር ከተደረጉ ሙከራዎች ጋር ተያይዞ ውጥረቱ ተባብሶ በቀጠለበት ወቅት ነው። በተጨማሪም የትሕነግ ሃይሎች በኮረም ከተማ አዲስ የሰበካ ጉባኤ ማቋቋማቸውን መረጃዎች ያመለክታሉ። ይህ እርምጃ ከኢ/ኦ/ተ/ቤ/ክ ጋር ግንኙነት ያላቸውን የሃይማኖት መሪዎች ከመንበረ ሰላማ ጋር በተቆራኙ ግለሰቦች በኃይል ለመተካት የተደረገ ጥረት እንደሆነ በሰፊው ይታሰባል።

እነዚህ ክስተቶች በሃይማኖት ማህበረሰቦች መካከል እየጨመረ የመጣውን ፍርሃት ፈጥረዋል፣ እንዲሁም የሃይማኖት ነፃነትን፣ የግል ደህንነትን እና የሲቪሎችን ጥበቃ በተመለከተ ከፍተኛ ስጋት ፈጥረዋል። ነዋሪዎች በአላማጣ ከተማ የሚገኘውን የፌዴራል ኮማንድ ፖስት በጠንካራ ሁኔታ አውግዘዋል፣ ለሲቪሉ ህዝብ ጥበቃ ባለማድረግ ክስ አቅርበዋል። የማህበረሰቡ አባላት የጸጥታ ኃይሎች የነዋሪዎችን ተደጋጋሚ ግድያ፣ እስራት እና አፈና ለመከላከል ፈቃደኛ እንዳልሆኑ ወይም እንዳልቻሉ ይገልጻሉ።

ነዋሪዎች እና የአካባቢው ተቆጣጣሪዎች እነዚህን ክስተቶች ለመመርመር፣ ተጠያቂነትን ለማረጋገጥ እና የታፈኑትን በሰላም እንዲፈቱ በሚመለከታቸው የሰብአዊ መብቶች አካላት፣ የሃይማኖት ተቋማት እና ሌሎች የሀገር ውስጥ እና የዓለም አቀፍ ባለድርሻ አካላት አስቸኳይ ትኩረት እና ጣልቃ ገብነት እንዲደረግላቸው በተደጋጋሚ ጥሪ አቅርበዋል።
