Statement from the Amhara Association of America
September 2, 2024 (Nehase 27, 2016 EC)
We at the Amhara Association of America (AAA) are deeply saddened and outraged to learn of the horrific killing of 2 year old Nolawit Zegeye in Gonder city by state-affiliated bandits, followed by the horrific response from security forces who opened fire on peaceful protestors demanding justice, killing three innocent civilians and leaving many others wounded. This grim incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing lawlessness and oppression faced by the Amhara people under the genocidal Oromo Prosperity Party regime of Abiy Ahmed.
AAA strongly condemns these heinous acts of violence and the continued targeting of civilians by the regime. We call upon the international community to urgently condemn these atrocities and to hold this barbaric regime accountable for its blatant disregard for human life and fundamental rights.
The Amhara people and all Ethiopians deserve to live in peace and security, free from fear of violence and repression. We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families, and we will continue to advocate for justice and accountability on their behalf.
