Summary of Amhara War Updates for October 2025

Overview 


Between October 1st and 31st, 2025, AWU recorded battle events and human rights incidents across 103 distinct woreda/city administrations in 17 zonal administrations in 4 regions (Amhara Region, Oromia Region, Benishangul-Gumuz Region and Addis-Ababa city). 


The month of October marked intense fighting with significant military casualties and shifting control in several strategic areas. This month involved military operations both from the Fano and the Oromo Prosperity Party (OPP) regime's joint armed forces. 


Over the reporting period, AWU reported 224 battle events across 93 woreda/city administrations in 14 zonal administrations across 3 regions (Amhara, Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions) resulting in 3,176 regime casualties and 105 Fano casualties.

Over the reporting period, AWU reported 54 human rights incidents across 35 woreda/city administrations in 13 zonal administrations across 3 regions (Amhara, Oromia, and Addis-Ababa) resulting in: 

  • 96 civilians killed; 

  • 82 civilians injured; 

  • 1 case of CRSV/SGBV; 

  • 137 abductions and 

  • 77 arrests.

While the majority of human rights incidents implicated OPP regime forces, other perpetrators included Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces, Oromo militias, Qemant militants, and unknown militants.
