Summary of Amhara War Updates for May 2026

Overview

Between May 1 to 31, 2026 AWU recorded battle events and human rights incidents across 99 distinct woreda/city administrations in 16 zonal administrations in 4 regions (Amhara, Oromia, Addis-Ababa and Benishangul-Gumuz).

The month of May 2026 marked intense fighting with significant military casualties and shifting control in several strategic areas. This month involved military operations both from the Fano and the Oromo Prosperity Party (OPP) regime's joint armed forces.

Over the reporting period, AWU recorded 156 battle events across 83 woreda/city administrations in 14 zonal administrations across 2 regions (Amhara and Oromia Regions) resulting in 3034 regime casualties and 45 Fano casualties.

Over the reporting period, AWU recorded 60 human rights incidents across 44 woreda/city administrations in 14 zonal administrations across 4 regions (Addis-Ababa, Amhara, Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions) resulting in:

• 123 civilians killed;

• 160 civilians injured;

• 5 SGBV/CRSV victims;

• 212 abductions and

• 166 arrests.

AWU also recorded 13 drone/air strikes across 7 woreda/city administrations in 6 zonal administrations which accounted for 23 civilian deaths and 34 civilian injuries.

While the majority of human rights incidents implicated OPP regime forces, other perpetrators included Tigray People's Liberation Front and Gumuz militants.

ከሚያዝያ 23 እስከ ግንቦት 23 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. (ሜይ 1 እስከ 31፣ 2026) በ99 የተለያዩ ወረዳዎች/ከተማ አስተዳደሮች በ16 የዞን አስተዳደሮች (አማራ፣ ኦሮሚያ፣ አዲስ-አበባ እና ቤኒሻንጉል-ጉሙዝ ክልሎች) ውስጥ የተለያዩ ውጊያዎች እና የሰብአዊ መብት ጥሰቶች ተመዝግበዋል።

በፈረንጆች ሜይ 2026 ወር በተለያዩ ወሳኝ አካባቢዎች ከፍተኛ ወታደራዊ ጉዳት የደረሰባቸው እና የቁጥጥር ሚዛን ለውጥ የተደረጉባቸው ውጊያዎች ተካሔደዋል። በዚህ ወር የአማራ ፋኖ ራስን የመከላከያ ኀይል ከኦሮሞ ብልጽግና ፖርቲ አገዛዝ ጥምር ኀይሎች ጋር ሰፊ ውጊያዎችን አድርገዋል።

ዘገባው በተሰራበት ጊዜ ውስጥ በ83 ወረዳ/ከተማ አስተዳደሮች በ14 የዞን አስተዳደሮች ውስጥ (አማራ እና ኦሮሚያ ክልሎች) የተካሄዱ 156 ውጊያዎች ተመዝግበዋል። በዚኽም 3034 የአገዛዙ ኀይል አባላት ጉዳት ደርሶባቸዋል እና 45 የፋኖ አባላት ጉዳት የደረሰባቸው ተመዝግበዋል።

ዘገባው በተሰራበት ጊዜ ውስጥ በ44 ወረዳ/ከተማ አስተዳደሮች በ14 የዞን አስተዳደሮች በ4 ክልሎች (አዲስ-አበባ፣ አማራ፣ ኦሮሚያ እና ቤኒሻንጉል-ጉሙዝ ክልሎች) 60 የሰብአዊ መብት ረገጣዎች ተመዝግበዋል። በዚኽም

• 123 ሰላማዊ ሰዎች ተገድለዋል፤

• 160 ሰላማዊ ሰዎች ቆስለዋል፤

• 5 ጾታዊ እና ጾታን መሰረት ያደረጉ ጥቃቶች ሰለባዎች፤

• 212 እገታዎች እና

• 166 እስራቶች ተመዝግበዋል።

በ6 ዞኖች በሚገኙ 7 ወረዳዎች/ከተማ አስተዳደሮች 13 ሰው አልባ አውሮፕላኖች በአየር ድብደባ በፈጸሙት ጥቃት ለ23 ሰዎች ሞት እና 34 ሰላማዊ ሰዎች ቆስለዋል።

በርካታዎቹ የሰብአዊ መብት ረገጣዎች በኦሮሞ ብልጽግና አገዛዝ ኀይሎች የተፈጸሙ ሲሆን የተወሰኑት ወንጀሎች በትግራይ ሕዝብ ነጻ አውጪ ግንባር እና ጉሙዝ ታጣቂዎች ተፈጽመዋል።
