Summary of Amhara War Updates for December 2025

Overview
Between December 1 st and 31st, 2026, AWU recorded battle events and human rights incidents across 104 distinct woreda/city administrations in 18 zonal administrations in 4 regions (Amhara, Oromia, Benishangul-Gumuz and Addis-Ababa).
The month of December marked intense fighting with significant military casualties and shifting control in several strategic areas. This month involved military operations both from the Fano and the Oromo Prosperity Party (OPP) regime's joint armed forces.
Over the reporting period, AWU reported 210 battle events across 90 woreda/city administrations in 15 zonal administrations across 3 regions (Amhara, Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions) resulting in 4,400 regime casualties and 158 Fano casualties.


Over the reporting period, AWU reported 54 human rights incidents across 38 woreda/city administrations in 15 zonal administrations across 3 regions (Amhara, Oromia, and AddisAbaba) resulting in:
74 civilians killed;
54 civilians injured;
11 cases of CRSV/SGBV;
156 abductions and
344 arrests.


While the majority of human rights incidents implicated OPP regime forces, other perpetrators included Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces, Oromia Region Special Forces, and unknown militants.
