Overview
Between August 1 st and 31 st, 2025, AWU recorded battle events and human rights incidents across 106 distinct woreda/city administrations in 18 zonal administrations in 2 regions (Amhara and Oromia).
The month of August marked intense fighting with significant military casualties and shifting control in several strategic areas. This month was marked by the announcement of consolidation of the major sub-regional commands of the Amhara Fano self-defense force and large-scale military operations both from the Fano and the Oromo Prosperity Party (OPP) regime's joint armed forces.
Over the reporting period, AWU reported 235 battle events across 96 woreda/city administrations in 16 zonal administrations across 2 regions (Amhara and Oromia) resulting in 4,485 regime casualties and 118 Fano casualties.


Over the reporting period, AWU reported 73 human rights incidents across 41 woreda/city administrations in 16 zonal administrations across 2 regions (Amhara and Oromia) resulting in:
111 civilians killed;
78 civilians injured;
4 abductions and
2,528 arrests.


While the majority of human rights incidents implicated OPP regime forces, other perpetrators included Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces, Oromia Region Special Forces (OSF) and unknown militants.
