Oromo Prosperity Party regime soldiers (regime forces) killed religious leader Simur Tadesse in Merawi town of North Mecha Woreda (North Gojjam Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia)

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has learned that on July 21st, 2025 Oromo Prosperity Party regime soldiers (regime forces) killed religious leader Simur Tadesse in Merawi town of North Mecha Woreda (North Gojjam Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia). On the day of the incident, regime forces extrajudicially killed religious teacher Simur Tadesse. The late victim was a renowned figure affiliated to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Merawi and surrounding areas. The victim had served at the Merawi Debre-Hayl St. Mikael’s Church for many years. According to sources, the victim had no known political involvement and no justification was provided by regime forces for the extrajudicial killing.

የአማራ ማህበር በአሜሪካ ባደረገው ማጣራት፣ በሐምሌ ቀን 14፣ 2017 ዓ.ም. በሰሜን ሜጫ ወረዳ፣ መርአዊ ከተማ (ሰሜን ጎጃም ዞን፣ (አማራ ክልል፣ ኢትዮጵያ) የኦሮሞ ብልፅግና ፓርቲ አገዛዝ ወታደሮች (የአገዛዙ ሀይሎች) ስሙር ታደሰ የተባሉ የሀይማኖት መምህር መግደላቸውን አረጋግጧል። ምንጮች እንዳረጋገጡት፣ በተጠቀሰው ዕለት፣ የአገዛዙ ወታደሮች መምህር ሲሙር ታደሰን ከፍርድ ቤት ትእዛዝ እና ከህግ አግባብ ውጪ መግደላቸው ታውቋል። ሟች በኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ሰሜን ጎጃም ሀገረ ስብከት፣ መራዊ ከተማና እና አካባቢው የታወቁ አገልጋይ እንደነበሩ ምንጮች ገልጸዋል። መምህር ስሙር እስከተገደሉበት እለት ድረስ በመራዊ ደብረ-ሃይል ቅዱስ ሚካኤል ቤተ ክርስቲያን ለበርካታ ዓመታት ሲያገለግሉ ቆይተዋል። እንደ ምንጮች ገለጻ ሟች ምንም አይነት ፖለቲካዊ እንቅስቃሴ ያልነበራቸው ሲሆን ለምን እንደተገደሉም እስካሁን የታወቀ ነገር የለም።
