Operation Aba Nadew: A Triumph For Humanity

On behalf of the Amhara Fano National Force (AFNF) East Amhara Zone - Menelik Command, our command announces the completion of Operation Arbegna Adem Ali (Aba Nadew) which took place between September 24th and October 10th, 2025, culminating with a resounding triumph for humanity, truth and freedom against the Abiy Ahmed led Prosperity Party regime’s genocidal forces of chaos, despair and oppression.

The success of Operation Aba Nadew, named in honor of the late freedom fighter Arbegna Adem “Aba Nadew” Ali, was made possible by the brave men and women of our armed forces and the support of our allies in all corners of the Amhara heartland of Ethiopia, who served on the frontlines 24/7 in a historic tactical victory which have ushered a new chapter in the history of our armed resistance against the fascist regime, and has emerged as a beacon of hope for the world to see.

In the 17-day operation, our battle-tested armed forces neutralized more than three thousand enemy combatants and captured close to seven hundred combatants, dissolving over five enemy military divisions and effectively dismantling the enemy’s military capacity in the region. Additionally, the operation resulted in the capture of a vast quantity of weapons, munitions, vehicles, supplies and equipment, bolstering our arsenal, and enhancing our operational capacity. The operation also led to the removal of occupying enemy forces in vast territories of eastern Amhara, achieving liberation of these numerous administrative units and restoration of peace and security for the public.

The success of Operation Aba Nadew marks the latest victory of the Amhara Fano self-defense force against genocide, oppression and injustice since the onset of the fascist regime’s war which began more than two years ago. Indeed, representatives from our ranks conducted free and open public discussions in more than 40 towns and district localities, broadening the reach of free and democratic public administrations. This followed the establishment of the Tsehafi Taezaz Aklilu Habtewold Political Training Center, an institution we established to train the future generation of political leaders to serve the public. This has been an essential step in deradicalizing the public from the regime’s extremist and hateful rhetoric.

The operation was also yet another display of the lawful conduct of our disciplined armed forces which have again demonstrated adherence to international laws, particularly in the treatment of prisoners of war, reaffirming that our resistance is one centered on human dignity. This commitment to legal norms comes as the enemy has operated with impunity utilizing all weapons at their disposal – from heavy artillery to drones and jets - to inflict maximal suffering on civilian populations. Another testament to the enemy’s barbarism is the recent sequence of mutilations perpetrated against female freedom fighters in particular, a symbol of the enemy’s disdain for humanity. It is our hope that the international community will join us in condemning the acts of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity being perpetrated by the Abiy Ahmed regime’s forces, and support our just quest for peace, justice and freedom in Ethiopia. Finally, it is our hope that international partners will lend us support in providing humanitarian relief in free administrative territories to help communities who have suffered from severe and deliberate neglect.

“The Amhara people’s resistance to genocide will continue onward to victory and freedom!”

Fano Abebe Fentaw

Head of Public Relations, AFNF Menelik Command
