Press statement from Amhara Fano in Gojjam

August 23rd, 2024 (Nehase 16, 2016 EC)

Restrictions on transportation services have been lifted and military operations will continue

Amhara Fano in Gojjam official Asres Mare Damtie delivers the group's latest press statement (footage from Roha TV). English translation of transcript provided below.

Our organization previously announced road restrictions effective starting on August 13th with exception for ambulances for an indefinite period of time which was implemented without any problems.

The primary reasons for the announcement of the road restrictions for vehicles were as follows:

To prevent any potential harm to civilians during gunfire exchanges arising from Fano operations with the invading army forces.

To disrupt enemy intelligent officers and logistic activities.

To enhance military capacity by capturing weapons brought in by the enemy through illicit means.

And it was in consideration of the need to fight the struggle for survival in order to protect the Amhara people from further massacres.

In the campaign over the past 10 days we have secured significant political, military and diplomatic victories.

It has now been demonstrated that Fano forces are a significant politically relevant force in Ethiopia that has secured popular support and acceptance, and are carrying out a coordinated struggle.

It has also been demonstrated that the strategic direction taken by the true children of Amhara who have continued to sacrifice for the survival of the people has been effective and that the public has shown preparedness to pay due sacrifices.

We have seen once more that the murderous and servile so called Amhara Prosperity Party is nothing but a liability to the Amhara people, plays no significant role Amhara politics and lacks a solid foundation.

We have also seen that we must move forward carrying the historic responsibility given to us by our people to further organize and fight harder.

In the span of 10 days operations were carried out across all areas under the control of our divisions using guerrilla and conventional styles of warfare and covert operations in major cities, which led to the capture of more than 50 heavy weapons, more than 732 rifles, and tens of thousands of ammunition units.

We inflicted extensive losses on enemy vehicles, and carried out repeated attacks on enemy forces which left more than 2340 enemy forces destroyed.

We successfully sabotaged the operation of the invading army's campaign and disrupted their formation which has left the enemy In a state of political and military disarray.

Furthermore, as the enemy forces succumbed to their military defeats they took to terrorizing the public in various places including Bahir Dar city where more than 35 civilians were massacred including religious fathers, homeless people and university students.

The group which calls itself Prosperity Party has proven they are a collection of insane individuals without a conscience not only to the Ethiopian people but to all those in the international community who follow Ethiopian politics.

When Fano forces carry out operations the people are always with it.

We assure the people that we will not rest until the demands of the Amhara people are addressed as we received great cooperation and personal sacrifices over the past 10 days of the restrictions.

We extend our gratitude to those who played a decisive role from within the lower ranks of the security apparatus and Prosperity administration to make our urban operations a success.

For those who over the past days supported our struggle by adhering to self imposed social and economic activity restrictions and because the objectives of the road restrictions have been fulfilled, we would like to announce that transportation restrictions will be lifted effective tomorrow [August 23, 2024] until such time another announcement is made.

We call on our armed forces to standby as our campaign will continue.

A new generation, a new way of thinking and a new hope!
