Massacre of Religious Monks, Nuns and Destruction of Waldeba Monastery by TPLF Forces

In defiance to the local community culture and preaching of the EOTC, the TPLF forces entered into the Abrentant temple and killed, detained, and displaced monks and nuns. AAA sources managed to identify at least ten (10) monks and nuns who have been attacked by the TPLF forces in the Abrentant temple of the Waldeba Monastery. Among these, six were killed while the remaining four face life-threatening injuries.

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has verified from families of victims and eyewitnesses that the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) [also sometimes referred to as Oromo Liberation Front Shene, OLF or Shene] has killed at least 23 Amhara civilians in five rounds of invasion between August 11th to November 2nd, 2022, in two villages of Huruta Dore Kebele (ward) in Jeju Woreda (district) of Arsi Zone (Oromia Region).

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has verified information from survivors, eyewitnesses, and colleagues of victims that militants of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) extra-judicially killed 12 civilians (of which 9 are ethnic Amharas) and injured an additional 6 people in Abadir camp, owned by the Metehara Sugar Factory.

The newly formed Amhara People's Negotiations Delegation consists of four main negotiators signed on this letter with a broader delegation of more than 40 Amhara leaders from different segments of Amhara society serving in committees to support the leadership team. This inclusive delegation of Amharas offers a critical opportunity for all actors to seize to ensure peace talks are successful or else risk further conflict and destabilization of Ethiopia and the wider region.

In violation of the self-declared cessation of hostilities, on August 24th, 2022, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) (Tigrayan forces) began a fullscale invasion of Raya Kobo Woreda (district) of the North Wollo Zone in Amhara Region, Ethiopia, for the third time.
