War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – September 14th to 20th, 2026

Overview
For the week of September 14th to 20th, 2026, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Oromo Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.
This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 21 woreda/city administrations across 11 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, North Gojjam, Awi, South Gonder, Central Gonder, West Gonder and Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera Zones. Developments were also recorded in Gurage Zone of Central Ethiopia Region.
Civilian casualties were recorded in 5 woreda/city administrations in 5 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Kobo, Mojana-Wadera, Dega-Damot, Guagusa-Shikudad and Alefa Woredas in North Wollo, North Shewa, West Gojjam, Awi and Central Gonder Zones.
Abductions were recorded in Enemay Woreda of East Gojjam Zone in Amhara Region.
Drone activity was recorded in 3 woreda/city administrations in 3 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Meket, Dera and Alefa Woredas in North Wollo, South Gonder and Central Gonder Zones.
This week, a coalition of armed groups led by AFNM announced the formation of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival (Alliance for Survival) to remove the Abiy Ahmed led regime and instate a transitional government.
