War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – November 24th to 30th, 2025

Overview
For the week of November 24th to 30th, 2025, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.
This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 33 woreda/city administrations across 11 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included the Wag-Hemra, North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, Awi, North Gojjam, South Gonder, Central Gonder and West Gonder Zones. Developments were also recorded in Metekel Zone of Benishangul-Gumuz Region.
Civilian casualties were recorded in 8 woreda/city administrations across 4 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Woldia, Bugna, Habru, Raya-Kobo, Meket, Arerti, Sekela and Metemma Woredas in North Wollo, West Gojjam and West Gonder Zones. In Bugna Woreda of North Wollo Zone incidences of sexual violence by regime forces targeting young girls and women were recorded. Civilian casualties were also reported in Metekel Zone of Benishangul-Gumuz Region, implicating Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) militants.
Drone activity was recorded in West Gojjam and North Gojjam Zones of Amhara Region. In Dega-Damot Woreda of West Gojjam Zone a drone strike resulted in civilian casualties.
Arrests were recorded in Korem, Alamata, Woldia, Menz-Lalo-Midir Woredas of Wag-Hemra, North Wollo and North Shewa Zones of Amhara Region. Arrests in Korem city were undertaken by Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) militants and targeted a religious leader affiliated to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC). In addition, abductions were recorded in Habru, Mekdela and North Achefer Woredas of North Wollo, South Wollo and North Gojjam Zones of Amhara Region.
This week, TPLF forces intensified aggressions in Alamata city and Raya-Alamata Woreda of North Wollo Zone in Amhara Region including takeover of public offices and religious institutions.
