War updates from Amhara Region, Ethiopia – April 6th to 12th, 2026

Overview


For the week of April 6th to 12th, 2026, fighting between the Amhara Fano self-defense force (Fano) and Oromo Prosperity Party regime joint forces (regime forces) has continued in various parts of Amhara Region in Ethiopia.


  • This week battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 23 woreda/city administrations across 12 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These zones included North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, Awi, Bahir-Dar, South Gonder, Central Gonder, West Gonder, North Gonder and Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera Zones. Developments were also recorded in Horo-Guduru-Wollega Zone of Oromia Region.


  • Civilian casualties were recorded in 5 woreda/city administrations across 4 zonal administrations in Amhara Region. These included Raya-Kobo, Efratana-Gidim, Sinan, Sedie, and Metemma Woredas in North Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam and West Gonder Zones.


  • Arrests and abductions were recorded in Merhabete, Banja-Shikudad and Debark Woredas of North Shewa, Awi and North Gonder Zones and in Bahir-Dar City of Amhara Region.


  • Drone activity was recorded in Enarj-Enawga, Sedie and Dega-Damot Woredas of East Gojjam and West Gojjam Zones. The strikes resulted in significant civilian casualties and property losses.


  • This week, fighting broke out after Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces carried out an incursion from eastern Sudan to Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera Zone of Amhara Region.
