October 29, 2026
A drone and artillery attack on the Turk Camp for internally displaced persons in Tehuledere District of South Wollo Zone in Amhara Region resulted in fatalities and injuries according to persons at the shelter. The attack was carried out today on October 29, 2026 (Tikimit 19, 2019 EC) starting at 11:30 am said residents, and that there had been drone surveillance over the area the previous day.
The first camp source said the attack was a combination of drone and artillery. That day the bombardment took place between 11:30 am and noon and led to the complete destruction of the shelter tarps.
The shelter resident said the incident took place as parents were returning from school with their children, and that the attack caused casualties among students, with two students killed and others suffering serious injuries to their hands and other body parts. One mother who was taking her children and returning home at the time of the incident said, “I had gone to the school to get my children and it happened when I was returning, I managed to save one of my children, but they struck my other child on her hand” she said expressing her grief and shock.
Residents of the shelter said they speculated the attack may have been targeting Fano forces operating on the periphery of the camp. Despite this, the bombardment landed entirely on the camp for internally displaced persons which led everyone to disperse and created severe concern, they explained. Currently there has been no statement issued on the attack on the Turk Camp for internally displaced persons.
