Press Statement from Amhara Fano Shewa Command

The Prosperity Party regime has imprisoned a 3-year-old child and other civilians under accusation of being family members of Fano fighters

For close to two years, the armed forces of the Prosperity Party regime have continued their invasion of the Amhara Region with intent to eliminate the Amhara people, but have failed in their brutal ambitions due to the staunch resistance of Amhara Fano freedom fighters, who are serving as the protectors of the Amhara people. During this period Fano forces have inflicted significant human and material losses on these invading armed forces. This led the Prosperity Party regime to arrive at the conclusion that its defeat came as a result of the Amhara people embracing Fano forces, providing Fano with shelter, food, drink, and information, and has taken to accusing civilians of changing their clothing and arming themselves to fight the regime. Since reaching this conclusion, regime forces have escalated their indiscriminate massacre of Amhara civilians and have engaged in mass arrests and brutal mistreatment of a significant number of civilians under pretense of being family members of Fano fighters.

For instance, on August 17th, 2024 (Nehase 11, 2016 EC), in the town of Enewari, located in Moretena Jiru Woreda, over 500 members of the Prosperity Party regime’s armed forces faced total defeat and capitulation by the Amhara Fano Shewa Command’s Ras Abebe Aregay Brigade (of the Nadew Division), and several brigades of the Negodguad Division. In response to their defeat, the armed forces of the Prosperity Party regime, driven by revenge unlawfully abducted a 3-year-old child named Nigus Nigussie, along with his mother, Memhir Mazengia Demeke. The young child and his mother were abducted after being accused of being relatives of a “bandit” and are being subjected to severe physical and psychological torture.
